Having been off the Hatching Grounds for awhile now meant that the Weyrwoman is finally out and about Pern again. Many have noticed that her trips to Fort Hold, where she is from, have increased whenever she is off the sands; surprising considering the fact that relations with her mother, Master Eeva of the Harper Hall, have not gotten better. After being away for two days, the Weyrwoman has returned with a small passenger, none other than her young nephew: Selyan.
Just barely old enough to stand, the Weyrwoman's keeping quiet about why she had brought him for Miraneith and Ittisieth's clutch. Selyan is one of the many sons of Ysa's oldest brother Yasan and his wife Llewella. He is short for his age at 12 with a brown tuff of hair always sticking up and expressive green eyes like his aunt. It did not take long for his adventurous spirit to take over in the unfamiliar Weyr surroundings, found squeezing into any crevice he can find, getting away with breaking curfew rules by his aunt. Caught in a conversation, the young boy talks up a storm about the Harper Hall, his secret desire to be a dragonrider (apparently a taboo to speak about back home), and his secret candidacy. Many in the barracks quickly learned that this is one boy that has a problem keeping secrets.
Was he really supposed to be a candidate? Is this some form of revenge on her mother, for Ysa not to be the only dragonrider in her family? What will happen with Ysa's relations with her brother and mother if her nephew /does/ Impress? Apparently the smug Weyrwoman isn't answering, though she is seen among the candidates more than usual.
