Description
Tall and broad-shouldered, Teryn fits the usual description of a smithcrafter even if he works in the more delicate arts of glassware. His dark brown hair has darkened and is intermittently speckled with gray strands that echo his age. Deep lines are worn into his face, a few flecks if pink shown here and there where small injuries have left scars. Strong, muscular arms and a powerful chest gives him the impression of a brawler, even if his general mannerisms seem gentle, with a delicate touch and a careful eye.
History
Born into small holder family, Teryn grew up with one older brother, and one younger sister. Not being the first born, there was little chance of him inheriting the family cothold. So, at an early age he joined the smithcraft. Mid-way through his apprentice years, his careful eye and detailed hand caught the attention of one of the master glasscrafters, and soon his experience in the smith hall was transferred over into creating works of metal and glass.
Walking the tables earlier than most expected, Teryn first was assigned to teaching the glasscraft in Telgar Hold, but since he often combined elements of both smith and glasscrafting, this proved too much of a challenge for many trying to perfect their own art. Thus, he was sent out of the hall and stationed at Ista Weyr. Since then, he has become as much of a fixture at the weyr as many of the older dragonriders, and his face is familiar to those who have been around the weyr for turns.
In his time at Ista Weyr, Teryn has only taken four apprentices. One went on to impress a brown and transfer to High Reaches, another became a journeyman and is now teaching at the Telgar crafthall. The third left his apprenticeship after only a matter of months. The most recent is Kiralyn a senior apprentice who seems somehow to be able to tolerate the man's eccentricities. Some rumors have spread that he is such a difficult master that few apprentices are willing to take a position at the Weyr, while others believe that he simply hasn't found many who are flexable enough to work with his unique style of glassware.

Rumors and Notes
- While Teryn is one of the older members of the Glasscraft, he is also one of the more forward thinking. He tends to butt-heads a lot with his fellow Masters, especially when it comes to advances in the craft. This is probably why he came to live at the weyr rather than the crafthall.
- He is exceptionally picky about taking on apprentices. He is strict, sometimes more than the letter of the official craft-rules, but not without some compassion. While he works them hard, he has a great deal of knowledge and those who set their minds to it can learn quite a bit from him.
- Teryn never married, and no one can ever recall him showing any interest in anyone, male or female.
- Since he has never had any children, Teryn regards those few he takes on as apprentices as if they were his own kids (at least those who make it through the first few months). Of course, that doesn't mean that he isn't a difficult taskmaster, but he also encourages them to find their own interests just as he had so long ago.
- As a Mastercrafter, Teryn's life is not without it's perks, and his one vice seems to be drink. He's a well known patron of the taverns and is quite the social and talkative drunk. There is a rumor that he's immune to hangovers, though, as he has never missed a morning shift at the kilns even after a hard night drinking.
- Hypocritically, Teryn forbids his apprentices from drinking (both those he mentors and those who work at the weyr under other glasscrafters), but few really pay much attention to it, and he's yet to ever pass down a punishment for it, although he can be heard mumbling to himself about it from time to time.
