As the previous turn comes to a close and a new one begins, Istans celebrated in usual island fashion, with beachside bonfires and bar brawls aplentry - for if there's one thing this weyr knows how to do, its party. But one pair of cranky Istans aren't joining the celebrations, though doubtless what Zeek is off doing gives an added reason to break out the rum and cake. For ten eggs lie on the hatching sands (or at least, that's the dragonhealers' best estimates, the ornery gold having partially buried the lot and added some extra mounds since). The weyrwoman apparently spent the entire day stuck in the galleries, at the demand of her lifemate, and hasn't had so much as a drop of good island brew since, as rumor goes, the stubborn gold last went up. And if one journeyman Nimen in the infirmary is sporting a black eye lately, it's totally unrelated. Really. But with Eulweth's last clutch still in the barracks, and Nziekilth's expected to hatch almost as soon as they graduate, there's been talk in the offices of adding on a few more assistant weyrlingmasters, and maybe shuffling about the ranks. Faranth only knows what the new young weyrleader will do, especially as he hasn't the turns of experience to reign in Cenlia's less than.. abrasive leadership style. But with the booze flowing and the spring rains promising a good harvest this year, the new turn is otherwise looking pretty good for the laid back island weyr.
