Ista Weyr - Sable Sands(#3306RJM)
The Sable Sands, Ista's place for relaxation and entertainment in a child-free environment, stretches out before you. Once an old ground-access weyr, the place has been turned into a nightclub catering to riders and weryfolk alike. Dark shadows drift over booths that line one wall, the conversations and actions of the booths' occupents afforded some small sense of obscurity and privacy from the rest of the bar. Glossy black tables and chairs are scattered across the middle of the floor before the stage that sits opposite the main doors, while a long bar lines the opposite wall from the booths. The bar is a fine piece of furniture, its brass fittings shining bright and wood polished to a fine sheen. Brass-legged barstools covered in soft black leather are pulled up to its counter, often crowded as still other patrons push up to it to make their orders. Tropical plants fill in the corners, their huge pots set on rollers so they can be pulled outside during the day. A discrete sound system can be found recessed in the walls, piping either recorded or live music as the day dictates to every corner of the club.
A wide selection of wines, spirits and juices can be ordered from the barstaff, and a constant pot of klah is kept brewing. Towards the end of the bar, a large machine can be seen, its copper fittings gleaming in the light - a klappachino machine for those with more 'refined' tastes.

THere's no better place to hide then in plain sight right? Well for sure the Sands aren't really plain sight but it's close enough for Dimitri as he sits there sipping at a tal glass of fruit juice while a pretty bronze lays upon his shoulder. For once Mit's quiet, his mind fully into his thoughts so that his lips are pulled into a frown.
There's only one place to get good fried wherry fritters and that is Ista's Sable Sands. F'yr has stopped purposely hiding and just denying any claims if asked, which is why she walks into the sands without even a worried glance around and ordering a basket of food and juice to the first waiter she can find. Her blue eyes scan the crowd finally and grin as she spots a familiar face, moving to drop across from Mit at his table, Chu giving a squeak from her shoulders. "You look serious," the brownrider points out as a greeting. "Whatcha thinking?"
It's probably bad that Aisling has fallen into the habit of getting herself a little buzzed when she wakes up, but alas, she didn't notice it was happening untill it was too late and she can't stop herself now. So she's also finding herself in the Sands this evening as well, looking for a fruity cocktail of somekind. She notices F'yr and Dimitri though and makes her way over to them and drops into a seat at the table as well. "Good morning."
Dimitri looks up as not just one but two riders come into his sight range and both say something towards him. "Just thinking." is first to come before he lifts his glass in a salute to Asiling. "Mornin'" is next before the glass hits the table with a rather solid 'THUNK'. "I have to figure out do something without getting my face sprayed with rock and sand." he mutters. "That and Does Impressing a dragon change a person to the point where maybe they forget just who they were to begin with."
"Uh, morning?" F'yr says in return to Aisling, though she still looks quite uncomfortable around the greenrider. Probably more so now as she refuses to meet her eye and looks around for her food instead. It comes soon enough with Chu chittering happily and getting the first fritter. Fy doesn't touch anything yet and instead turns to stare at Dimitri. "That's pretty serious thinking right there. Not the face problem but… well, who really cares? You scared to Impress a dragon now?"
Aisling nods lightly to the both of them and thanks the waitress when her drink arrives. She takes a sip of it as Dimitri says what he's been thinking about. "Well, I don't know about the first thing. But I don't think you have to worry about impressing a dragon changeing who you are. Before I came to Ista in the first place I didn't go about having a lot of fun, but the friends I made durring candidacy loosened me up, not impressing Tejath. If anything that silly green has reminded me the importance of being true to all of myself because she loves me for every bit of what I am."
Dimitri looks from rider to rider, then down at his glass again "Not afraid by any means, just got to thinking about how impression does change your life and was wondering how much it changed a person overall." Yes, Mit has a deeper side to himself then shows at times. "What I need is a mask or goggles or something. I tried to raid the stores but they didn't have anything in there that I could use."
F'yr gives Aisling a side look as she talks, popping a fritter into her mouth and chewing. She nods back to Mit. "What she said. All deep and important. But really, you're here and now and yah, dragons do change you no matter what some people say." Like the greenrider, who she shrugs her shoulders at. "But that's cause you'll be a dragonrider then, if that happens. It won't matter what you were in the past, but it's not like you're gonna become a /completely/ different person and hate yourself." She throws another fritter to the gaping mouth of her gold firelizard. "Why're you getting rocks and sand in your face, anyway?"
Aisling nods lightly, Fy's got it right after all! "Yeah, why are you getting sand and stuff in your face? If you really need a pair of goggles, I've got a pair that I've taken to wearing while at the weaver hall when I'm dyeing things. The fumes kind of hurt my eyes." She tacks on that last bit as an explination only because most people don't wear goggles when they're dyeing. She's just weird.
Dimitri flinches as Colt creeps down his arm and stealthily moves across the table towards F'yr, the bronze saw the flying fritter and is eyeing the basket like he might a fish he would be ready to snatch up. "You know why F'yr, but this time I've been experimenting with some different placements of things." And then for the first time since the womens arrival Mit perks up, casting a beaming smile on Aisling as if she's just saved his day and become his hero-ine. "You do? I could borrow them then? I don't need them for long just a day or two really."
Chu's attention is pulled away from cheerfully tearing away the crispy outer layer of fritter for the meaty wherry to glance at the bronze. She chirps curiously, more open in the presence of another firelizard, and then continues eating. F'yr raises her brows at the candidate and nods. "Well, yah, but… Normally you're standing a good distance /away/ so that doesn't happen," she says, though is smart to lower her voice a bit. After a moment she pulls a fritter from the basket and holds it out for Colt.
Aisling is content to drink her cocktail whilst they plot. She doesn't really want to know anyway. She nods though. "Yeah you can borrow them. I don't have another dyes lesson for a sevenday or so." She says, feeling plesantly warmed inside. "Are you the one blowing things up then?" She asks, infering it from sand and such getting his face and Fy saying you'd usually stand back.
Dimitri glances at Ais again, chewing on the inside of his lower lip. "Me? Would I do that Ais? Take a chance on getting packed back to Western in shame?" There's a quick batting of his eyes and a wicked little grin. "Maybe I am, though I wasn't the one that wholly came up with the idea /If/ I am the one who's going these things." Back to his drink, he lifts it, sipping a few times before lowering it once more. "I've been pairing and tripling up, they make a bigger shower all the way around."
F'yr shakes her head just slightly at the candidate, hoping to discourage him from admitting. Her eyes flicker brieftly to the greenrider and she shifts uncomfortably while taking a gulp of her juice. "Lots of people like blowing things up. Don't say that or Ais will /really/ believe it was you." And the brownrider wasn't sure if she can trust the older woman with that information. She eyedarts around the Sands and shrugs. "I guess if you want to be /extra/ careful. Never really thought 'bought goggles."
Aisling shrugs lightly. "I don't know." She says lamely. But she's nodding then. "That's true. There are lots of people who like blowing things up. My weyrmate included. I wasn't accusing you or anything. Just curious is all." If he were to admitt to it, he'd probably get a scolding from her, but she wouldn't turn him in or anything.
Dimitri nods to F'yr, keeping quiet for a bit longer. "I don't know who's doing all of it. Know F'yr and D'son didn't have anything to do with it." Colt meanders in closer to F'yr, cocking his head and arching his neck as he trills at the gold before stretching out to nab the fritter like a young runner might take up a treat from a human hand. "You have to admit it did stir things up around here."
"Whoever did it was a sharding genius," F'yr says with a smirk and a bob of her head. "Not saying that the others that like to blow things up aren't." Herself included, right? "It was just a really funny sight… was passing through, you know." The brownrider quiets down though before she made Aisling scold her or something, ducking her head and tossing the bronze a fritter and then passing one up to her own firelizard so that she won't get sad. "Anyway, it's all quiet now. Just stirred the caverns up, Mike didn't even seem to care much."
Aisling snickers lightly at F'yr's attitude towards the person blowing things up. "I'm sure you think so. I feel bad for Mike though. Just comming off the stress of the dragon flu and having a clutch on the sands still, add on the stench that's been going around through the weyr and now things blowing up left and right." Or so it feels like. "I'm sure he's reaching his limit." She says, a somewhat soft expression on her face that only lasts for a moment before she downs the rest of her drink and sets down the glass. "I'm sure it was quite the sight to see though." A smile pops up on her face. "Too bad I was asleep during it."
Dimitri chuckles, his grin widening even more now. "It was a sight, though the stench of burned greens wasn't that great but the look on peoples faces, the mess…I only heard about it, didn't see much of it until after all was said and done." With a chuckle still on his mouth, he sips again from his glass, "The only bad part was I heard that someone knocked dye or something into one of the laundry scrub pools…how did dye get into an area like that I want to know."
Aisling nods lightly. "I bet it was. I am glad I didn't see it actually. I probably would have felt the need to seek out F'yr here and give her a smack to the head. And the get promptly yelled at." She gives the brownrider a bit of a grin and then blinks lightly at the mention of dye getting into the laundry pool. "Well, I'm glad I haven't sent my clothes down for a wash in a while. If it was either of you, I swear I'll give you both a smack on the back of the head."
You say "Naw F'yr didn't do it Aisling, I can swear to that." He looks to her face, steady. "I now have a red shirt that was once white." but he doesn't seem to mind. "I guess all in all it could be worse, could have dyed Mikes stuff Red..or pink.""
F'yr returns to the table after being away for a little while. Too much juice or something, though she comes back with a plate of bubblies. "Dyes? You had clothes in there at the end?" Fy asks Dimitri, picking up the second half of whatever they were saying. Not that she minded, since the sweets had most of her attention.
Aisling shakes her head lightly, a small grin tugging at her lips. "Oh? Well that's good to know. Sorry about your shirt." She says, pilfering one of Fy's bubblies when the plate is set down. Hey, she needs some food to absorb the bit of alcoholn she just had. She's gotta go to work after all. "Any of your clothes get dyed Fy?"
Dimitri flashes that grin at F'yr, "Yup, just told Aisling about how one of my white shirts got turned red. I'm counting myself lucky that it wasn't my robe in there." Colt isn't as picky as the gold is, while she tears at the breading he just tears it apart eating it all before looking around for more.
F'yr turns her chin up to glower briefly at Aisling. Taking a bubbly before Fy can even enjoy it! She drags the plate closer to herself and hovers protectively before taking one for herself. "Course not. I don't do laundry that often, so I got lucky or else all my clothes would have been red at the end." She takes a big bite of her pie, savoring it for a bit before licking the filling from the side of her mouth and grinning at Mit. "If you did, you'd need to practice making another one."
Aisling grins impishly at Fy and savors the pie. "That really would have sucked if it had been your robes, but then. They're fairly simple to make. It's basically a sack with the head and arm wholes cut out of it." She says with a little shrug. Well it is! In it's simpleest form anyway. ^__^
Dimitri he turns a grimace on F'yr, "I'd find an old one, fix it up. No way am I gonna sew a whole new all over again." He holds up well abused hands, "Look at my poor, poor fingers. All abused, bruised up from being jabbed with my needle." There he goes with that pity me thing he has.
F'yr glares further at the grin from Aisling, and she makes sure her plate is far from the greenrider's reach. At least hopefully. The fritters have all been pretty much left for the firelizards, too. "You could just use a pillowcase and make it. I bet some lazy candidates have done that in the past." Her blue eyes study his hands when he shoes them and she winces a bit. "You're gonna loose your hands completely when you sew with the larger needles for leather, you know. Mit'll be the rider with no hands."
Aisling takes a look at Dimirti's hands and frowns lightly. "Ya know, sewing isn't really my specialty, but if you like I could teach you a few tricks so you're not stabbing yourself constantly." She nods lightly at Fy's words about the larger needles. "If you're not careful, you could seriously injure yourself if you get to the point where you're making riding straps."
Dimitri turns his pitful self more towards Ais after casting F'yr a look, "Then I'd have to request to have you take care of my dragon for me F'yr." he states. "Ohhh teach me Aisling of the Weaver craft." he purrs out.
F'yr rolls her eyes at Dimitri. "As if. I've got enough of a handfull with just Zaruath, barely got time to myself with that one. Plus, I'm sure you'll figure out a way to deal even without hands. You're inventive like that." She grins and winks to the candidate before finishing off her bubbly in a few more bites, giving a snort at his antics with Aisling. After finishing her snack and licking her fingers off, she furrows her brows at the greenrider. "Did you give him anything to drink while I was away?"
Aisling snickers a little at Dimitri and Fy's exchange. "Alright. I'll come by the barracks sometime. It's easier to show than tell." She blinks at Fy then while she pops the last of her bublie in her mouth. Shaking her head she says, "No. Isn't he always like this?" He is every time /she/ sees him anyway. All flirty and purry.
Dimitri sits up, looking rather hurt that it's being suggested that he's been drinking. "I swear it's just juice. Here try it yourself." he shoves the glass towards F'yr. "And I'm always like this, you just don't always see it." Yes, he can turn the charm on and off when he wants to, just like a light switch.
F'yr shakes a hand at the offered juice. "Nah, I believe it. And maybe it's just something that you bring out of him, Ais," she says with a quick lift of a shoulder and a smirk. There're still more bubblies for her to finish, though she only picks on the crust of her second.
Aisling shrugs lightly as well. "Maybe. What can I say? Maybe I'm starting to look all shiny like Tejath does at times." She says with a bit of a smirk. She pushes back a few of her red curls, tucking them behind her ear. "So Dimitri," she says turning her attention to the candidate. "Am I right in assuming you're from Western?" She thinks that's what she heard earlier.
Dimitri rolls his eyes, sits back in his seat and listens to them. "Born and raised there." he notes as Colt creeps back to him, walking up his arm and curling his tail around Mits neck. "Ohhh Shiney? No No NO, I don't do shiney greenriders. They are dangerous."
F'yr shakes her bubbly at Dimitri as she picks it up. "You know, I've never really seen much of your 'lizard. What's his name?" Hello change of subject, though she did feed the critter afterall. Her Chu was still curled on the table, enjoying her stuffed belly. She giggles at his reaction and turns to give Aisling a quick look up and down. "Ais is harmless proddy."
Aisling nods lightly and would continue on that line of thought and talk, except Fy changes the subject. She watches the gold and bronze flitters and wonders for a few moment where exactly her little faire is. "Yes, I'm not a scary proddy greenie. I just get to walk around for a few day feeling like I've fallen asleep out in the sun for a few hours and am now burt to a crispy state. Skin hurts and everything." She frowns and dreads the times of year Tejath goes all proddy like.
Dimitri still looks rather warey, watching the greenlet for several long moments before the shaking of the bubbly is noted. "Didn't your momma ever tell you that there are good uses for bubblies, and using them as a tool of chastisement is not one of them." Then like that the subject is changed, and Colt is the topic. "He's been real quiet, took the move from Western to here a little hard, kept popping off to Western only to come back and cling to me like a vine." A hand that's as gentle as can be caresses the bronzes small head, touching the length of his neck softly. "THis here is Colt, my companion and oft times partner in crime and look out."
"No," F'yr says simply but with a grin, and still shaking that bubbly. She's quick to bring it back to herself, nibbling on the edge. "He's a nice looking fellow. Chu wasn't that attached to Western when I came here, even though she hatched out there." The gold's belly gets a poke, which earns her a startled trill. She glances to Aisling again as she explains her proddiness, grin fading into a more uncomfortable look since she didn't like Tejath's times of the year either. "Colt. Cute."
Aisling nods lightly at his story. "That's kinda cute actually. I got mine while living here, though they don't mind poping up all over Pern when ever I'm trying to work." She snickers a little before snagging a waitress and ordering a juice for herself. She gives Fy a look then as that grin fades. "It's not my fault Zaru and Tejath are in love with eachother." She's at least learned to interpret that look.
Dimitri looks from rider to rider, not sure what to make of all this. Really he's just..lost "Note to self, Aisling is like a fried tuber when prody." he whispers. "He reminded me of a young runner when he hatched, all body and shaky legs." Mit continues to pet the dozing bronze, not even the trill from the gold seems to rouse him. "Okay, another note to self. If I impress a male dragon, remove him from the weyr when Ais's green is proddy."
"So not as nice looking as he is now? Chu was cute as a hatchling and cute now." F'yr smiles fondly to her best friend and then proceeds to nearly shoves the entire bubbly in her mouth. She pinks around the edges faintly at Aisling's comment. "Yah, well, I try to get him away as much as possible," she mumbles to her after a moment and eyeing Dimitri. "She's all attached to Zaruath is the problem. Maybe you or someone will Impress a male dragon someday that'll keep Tejath's attention more." Not likely.
Aisling purses her lips at Dimitri, but the shrugs lightly. It's a good enough description of herself she suposses. "My little green was all shy when she first hatched. She was quite upset when my hair got all cut off and she didn't have any where ti hide. But after I got my boys, she's become a little more comfortable with people in general." She grins brightly at fy, looking the tiniest bit smug. "She's so attatched to him because he encourages her all the time to be the fantastic bit of dragon she is. And you don't have to avoid the weyr when she's ready to go up. Zaru's only won one of her flights." She says this last bit to Mit with a little shrug.
Dimitri eases up some, dragging his hand and the bronze down off his shoulder only to have the 'lizard flop over onto his other arm where he lays flat on his back with his forepaws splayed out. "Sleeps like a rock at times." he mutters as he pokes and prods the bronze. "Sounds like a well made match as far as dragons go." he notes, praying that his comment doesn't get him hit. "Say Ais, what type of goggles do you wear when you work with the dyes? Are they old flight type goggles or more like swimming ones?" Yes, a change of topic is now called for, time to get away from this proddiness stuff.
F'yr giggles at the bronze and all the firelizard talk, looking back to her own for a moment. "Sometimes I think Chu is less 'lizard and… well, something else. You would never believe she hatched wild with the way she sticks by, though she's always been shy. Don't wanna get her a companion though," she says with a thoughtful look at Aisling after she mentions her story. She gives her head a violent shake though. "The thing is he still chases, and it'll be a time when he catches again." And Fy just has to shudder and blush and duck her head away, letting Mit change the subject.
Aisling smiles at the sleeping bronze and nods. "I'm sure most every little flitter has a different sort of personality to them." She grins at Fy's blush over Zaruath catching Tejath again and the implications there of. "They're like those old flight goggles. I guess some people still use them for flight, but I only use them at the craft hall." She says, letting the change in subject take hold.
Dimitri nods, mind rolling back. "Those would work grand." Another prod of the bronze and Mit gives up on trying to wake him altogether. "THis one hatched with a clutch in the caverns, not a wild clutch." Carefully he stays clear of the proddy and catching talk still. "It's funny though, he loves te sand here. Gave me a face full of it the other day when I was on the beach."
F'yr listens to the exchange between rider and candidate with a slightly puzzled expression at Mit. Though she knew what they were for, it still confused the girl. She arches one brow at the sleeping bronze when he turns out to be the subject again. "What's he like to do, dig in the sand or does it on purpose at you?" She smirks, turning to pick at some crumbs from the plate around the last bubbly and some filling that fallen. "Chu doesn't do much besides be very attached. Only time she got angry was when I Impressed and then when she clutched and we moved her eggs."
Aisling smiles lightly and nods. "Alright then. I'll drop them off then at the barracks in the morning before you're up for chores or plotting or whatever." She waves a hand at the air infront of her. "I'll see you both later, I have to go get ready for another night of work." She says with a little grin. "Have a good evening." She says, standing and giving them both a little wave before leaving.
Dimitri waves to Aisling as she departs, "Have a good night Aisling." is called out to her back. "He was hunting something in the sand, flinging it all over the place like a canine dues then got mad because whatever it was got away and tossed more at me like it was my fault." Through it all he stays calm, petting the flitters belly with sure strokes. "He's my buddy though, keeps me company on those long nights when there's so much snoring in the barracks it amazes me that anyone can sleep."
F'yr watches as Aisling gets up, bobbing her head lightly after the older woman. "Bye," she calls after her, pursing her lips a bit. After a moment of watching the retreating redhead she finally turns back to pay attention to Dimitri, lips quirking at the story. "Sounds like he's got quite the personality. Wouldn't know what I'd do if I didn't have Chu around back in Western and here. And don't know what I'd do to a firelizard that threw sand at me. Jump on him, probably." She giggles a bit and then finally scoops up her own firelizard while pushing the bubbly plate towards the candidate. "Want it? I think I'm stuffed."
Dimitri shakes his head, "No, to full from all I've eaten tonight already." Again there's a look to the molten flizzen weight in his arms. "He saved my backside the morning I planted the bombs all over the place." he whispers. "Nearly got caught by the cooks coming in to start breakfast."
F'yr pouts a bit as she stares at the bubbly. A waste, really… So she ends up picking it up herself, though she doesn't seem to be interested in eating it. Yet. Her one arm is curled protectively around Chu who was trying to settle back into sleep. "Did he give you a good warning or distract the cooks away to give you time?" She smiles a bit at the bronze firelizard. "Good fellow, though. Lots of firelizards are just freeloaders around here."
You say "He made a distraction I think, not sure if that's what he was trying to do or if he was trying to get back to me. Either way it stalled them long enough for me to get out of there and out of the caverns and into the forest." Smart Mit, Fast Mit. "Trust me, he was quiet tonight, on that morning he wasn't.""
"He definitely deserved half that basket of fritters, or however many he ate that the end," F'yr says with a good nod of her head before grinning more fully. She was relaxing more visibly now that Aisling had gone, actually, with her shoulders drooping and legs stretched out. "What'd Ista do if you got tossed back to boring old Western. Oh? So he's normally a loud firelizard?" She looks generally curious, having a quiet firelizard herself.
Dimitri grimaces. "I don't need a fat flizzen. He'd be to much to pack around." Not that he minds it seems. "He can be, can burst your eardrums if he wanted to." But that might be over doing it some. "I don't think I want to go back there, I like it just fine here at Ista, impress or not."
F'yr winces as she imagines the power behind the smaller bronze's vocal cords, glancing down at Chu again. Quiet Chu… "Good to know," she says, turning back to smirk at the candidate. "Glad Zaru and I were around at the right time to pick you up afterall, so it's good to have 'nother person around that likes to set things off. Definitely makes Ista less boring, not that it is." With bubbly in hand and making sure Chu was draped over her arm instead, the brownrider gets up off her seat. "But I gotta be heading out of here. Catch you 'round, Mit, and make sure to sharpen Colt's lookout skills, 'least till the hatching." She snickers and waves the bubbly one last time in farewell this time.
Dimitri stands too, wobbling some after sitting for so long. "Bye F'yr." is called out as he too heads for the door. "Come on Colt, time for some sleep." There's a smile for the comment. "Ista will never be the same again." he offers before moving out into the darkness and presumablly to the Barracks.
