Late one Sleepless Night...

Ista Weyr - Southern Bowl

Compared to that of other weyrs, Ista's bowl is small, and incomplete - northwards, one wall was blown clear away several millennia ago, leaving the view clear towards the plateau, the jungles, and the ocean beyond that. Somewhat elliptical, the breadth of the bowl seems to run Northwest to Southeast, the bustling epicentre of the weyr being here, towards the southwest. Several large entrances have been dug into the great bowl walls here - north east are the hatching grounds, south the Living Caverns, these being the two largest caverns in the weyr.

To the east, a small entrance leads in to the ground weyrs - the ledges of these line the bowl wall above, often filled with dragons of gold or bronze; westwards is another ledge, but with a staircase built into the wall, allowing access to the Sable Sands. The infirmary is located towards the southwest.

So it is stupidly late at night or early in the morning depending on your point of view. Though with the moons full the bowl is fairly brightly lit in the white glow. Briana is sitting along one bit of the bowl in her nightshift, dealing with the plaintive cries of a hungry firelizard. The slim teenager trying to cut up little bits of meat to eat fast enough for the hungry firelizard. She has been back to the weyr nearly two months now and just settling back into her routines. She has a scar on her right arm from shoulder to elbow that is still pink but fully healed.

X'hil is at present pacing a small stretch of the bowl, an irritable toddler held close. "Shh, shh, go to sleep little Mae, please." he's pleading, but it doesn't help. X'hil sighs, and closes his eyes. A brown firelizard emerges from between, and the toddler immediately stops fussing, making grabby hands at the firelizard. The firelizard takes one look, and bolts, flying directly over Briana's head. X'hil chases after as quickly as he can, but comes to a stop near the teenager, grimacing after the firelizard. The toddler doesn't seem to mind that the firelizard escaped, that 'chase' was evidently exciting, and she's giggling now.

Focused on her own crying 'baby' Briana does not notice the other rider and child here until they are running in her direction. Her little green gives a hiss and bolts down into her basket as Briana ducks the oncoming brown, "Oh…" She gasps in surprise before she looks up to the rider and toddler. "Oh hi…" She manages to get out with a half smile to the kid though a somewhat nervous look to the adult.

X'hil grimaces after the escaped brown, but there's really nothing he can do about that now, so he just sort of stops there. At least the toddler isn't fussing? "Ah… hey." he manages a sheepish response to Briana's greeting. "…hope we're not being a nuisance?" he asks. There's a glance to the now calm toddler, and the man smiles a very relieved smile. /At last/. "Ah, I'm X'hil, and this is my baby girl, Ahimae." he introduces. 'Baby' girl? She must be at least two turns, probably closer to two and a half. Ahimae makes grabby hands towards the basket now, and X'hil blinks. "No, he's not in there." he says, gently taking Ahimae's hands in his own, and moving them back, away from the basket.

The flitter in the basket looks only a few days old and not looking particulalry happy, hissy little thing. As the girl comes near the basket Briana raises it up a little, "Sorry she is very grumpy at the moment." She explains to the girl before she looks up to the father. "Oh no, reckon we were so we came out here so I didn't wake up the entire dorms with her crying." Briana explains to the man, slowly starting to relax from her startlement. "I am Briana…" She explains, a name he may or may not remember as one of the children of the renagade captives so many turns ago. A girl adn her younger twin brothers. Rumours would have she recently returned if rumours cared about her return.

X'hil tilts his head at the hissy little firelizard, and smiles slightly. "Ah, I see." he murmurs, then shakes his head at the toddler. "No, Mae, you don't want that. She's not nice like Mer." he warns, glancing back to /eye/ the hissing green. "Ah, sorry, I'm sure she's very nice, when she's not… hungry." he says, though he looks sceptical. "Mmm. That's the same reason we're out here. Well, more or less. I didn't want to wake the older children, though I should head back up there as soon as Mae here has fallen asleep." 'Mae here''s eyes are wiiide open, staring at that young firelizard. Sleep? But, firelizard! Briana's name doesn't seem to ring any bells for the man, he just nods. "Briana, well met, then. Does she have a name yet?" is asked, nodding to the firelizard.

"I only found her the other day, she…is still a bit fussy around other people when she is hungry." Briana says apologetically, "She is nice to me…" She offers hopefully and settles slowly back down to sit on the ground. She looks over to Mae and smiles to the little girl, "So how old are ya Mae?" She asks the girl in a voice that speaks of some experience with young kids. "You keeping your dad up?" She asks with some amusement before looking down to her flitter, "Well I was deciding between Blade or Leaf…like a blade of grass…" She offers and looks down at the green, "Though with her temperment perhaps the other type would suit to."

X'hil's eager young daughter is fighting his restraints now, making grabby hands for the tiny green. "Mae, no." X'hil repeats firmly, backing it up by taking a step away from Briana and the firelizard. "Sorry." he offers to the teen. Ahimae grins at Briana. "Two an' a half!" she proclaims loudly, making X'hil chuckle. "Yes, you're a big girl now." he tells her. There's a nod for the firelizard's name, and temperament. "Heh. Should see my little Wraith, he's a sneaky one, in and out like a ghost, he is. Named him that because of how he looked, but it definitely suits." Ahimae reaches for the firelizard again, and X'hil sighs. "Well, you're not crying at least." he notes, glancing up idly. "I should get her back to the weyr, she's clearly /very/ interested in your young Blade, or Leaf. Sorry." he apologises, already retreating to a nearby bronze. The straps even have a toddler seat, up in front of the rider's, so that the toddler can be held as well as strapped in. "I'll, uh, see you round." he offers in farewell.

"Yes you are a big girl now and big girls sleep when daddy's want them to." Briana offers rather helpfully and gives a wink to the rider, "I think Blade it is." She says with a half smile and looks down to her little 'darling'. She looks up to the rider with a nod, "Yeah, see you around and you too Mae." She says with a fingerwave to the little girl.
