A storm, which might have had hurricane force in the warmth of southern waters, lost much of its power by the time it made landfall on Ista's shores, but that doesn't mean it didn't wreak havoc. No casualties have been reported as of yet, but the Ocean Sapphire wing has been deployed to search for at least four missing persons, the majority of whom were hunters or holders too stubborn to heed Starcrafter reports of the fast-moving storm.
Physical damages include severe flooding of the weyr's mines, which have been shut down until drainage and stabilization tests can occur. Equally frustrating, the Piqued, a boat mostly devoted to tourism of the island (especially focusing, as of late, on tours around the island to observe the fall colors), was finally discovered washed ashore on the far side of the island in tatters. The crew and passengers had been picked up by S&R the night before, but much to their dismay, the ship was too far away from docking to even merit transport.
The flotsam on the cliff-secluded beach, however, cannot be ignored, and a missive has been sent to the weyr to ask for any riders and weyrfolk that can be spared, be they crafter, weyrling, or otherwise.
