A bright, medium turquoise flows from an extremely angular muzzle, back over headknobs and deceivingly slender neck. Similarly hued shoulders and torso slide into a lighter hue of the same rich turquoise along his belly. The slender build continues through his hips, and to his tail - which resembles a closely coiled teal whip, ready to whip outwards at a moment's notice. A tropical light reflecting off his hide reveals a contrasting pattern, dark turquoise, like yarn left to loop over and over again. When his wings are extended, the pale turquoise sails are radical in their cut, leaving doubt as to their usefulness, while dark spars crisscross them. Headknobs are a pair blue, a coloring that is mimicked on the ridges down his back, while the talons at the end of each limb are a near ebony turquoise.
Egg Name and Description
Forbidden Island Egg
This egg looks like a piece of Paradise transplanted to Ista's warm sands. The top is the blue of a tropical day with nary a cloud to mar its perfection. The bottom is the scintillating turquoise of the tropical seas. Where the sea and sky meet there is an emerald gem, a tropical island with forests wandering up a tri-peaked mountain that rises above the seas. Sailing across the turquoise sea is a 4-man launch that is medium grey in color, sailing out from the island are brown canoes with triangular sails. The odd thing is the sails are upside down, that is the point of the triangular sail is at the bottom of the boom. Do the islanders welcome the newcomers? The grey boat is among the native boats and wreaths of flowers hang in the air as they are tossed by the natives to the four men in the grey boat.
Forbidden Island Egg splits asunder. The fury of the one it contained has reduced it to a ring of shard and dust. Its occupant on the sands.
The drums sound in the background, the sound of waves crashing against the shore blend with the drumming. A presence is there, « T'ev, I am Ruanath and it is time to go to the festival » the drumming continues and scents seem to waft with imaginary breezes. « Can we go T'ev. Please? I'm hungry. » And now for you the party will never end for Ruanath is the partner for you and he loves to drum.
"Curiosity is the very basis of education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat, I say only the cat died nobly." - Arnold Edinborough
From the very beginning your Ruanath will be a handful, sticking his nose into anything and everything, questioning loudly as to what's going on. « What is that? » will be the most common question, each time the pair of you encounters something new, whether it's herdbeasts, an oil vat, his couch, or the beach. However, as the novelty of it all wears off, his questions will take on a different form, perhaps an incident with Jeriah and Teloriith will have him wondering « Why does /she/ get to be special? » - and certainly, the question will be asked of all present, and loudly, rather then to just you.
"Tact is the unsaid part of what you think; it's opposite, the unthought part of which you say" -Henry van Dyke
Tact is certainly something you are going to have to work on with him, and don't be upset when it takes a long time for any results to be seen. He will have a hard time understanding why, if you are so willing to answer his questions, why others won't be just as thrilled. « But why are they eating each other's face? There's a lot of food there with them! » And, no matter how embarrassed you may get about it all, he's not going to notice, or change his pattern of behavior.
"Try to learn something about everything and everything about something." -Thomas Hardy
Nothing will be out of his interest, though some things will attract him more then others. One of those will be music of all sorts, though drums in particular. He'll beg and plead that you help teach him out to play, how to make sense of it all, and he'll be disappointed when it's just not feasible. However, he will learn from you how to keep a beat, and his tail will often thump along with the music.
"Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air" -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ruanath is a creature of the water. He'll spend all his free time in the water, and if that's not possible, around it. Floating, swimming, diving, and all in all having fun. It will be a struggle to get him out of the water, « But T'ev can't I just have a few more minutes? » His dallying may make you late for things now and then, but at least it's innocent.
He's the most at ease in the water, as he's rather awkward on land, a weird lope going on as he walks. He gains grace once he gets into the air, high above the ground, the obstacle free-area mimicking his beloved ocean, where he can twist and spiral, rotation and spin to his heart's content.
His mind is an ever changing melody of tropical blues and greens, teals and turquoises which fade in and out with his thoughts and emotions, while occasionally a streak of white sand appears. The pulsating colors correspond with the low beat of a variety of drums, each keeping its own tempo, some a higher pitch and a faster beat, while others are slower and lower, an echoing bass, though each sounds clearly on its own. The salty scent of an ocean breeze wafts through his mind, a pleasant backdrop to his clear baritone voice.
The theme for this hatching was 'Musicals' and the Forbidden Island Egg was Alicia's interpretation on 'South Pacific' by Roger and Hammerstein. The musical is set on a Pacific Island during World War II, where a variety of US troops are stationed along with the natives, waiting for something to occur. A number of aspects were taken from the musical itself, including Ruanath's coloration from the Mandarin Fish, and aspects of his personality from the character Lt. Cable.
"Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul."
His name comes from the Hindi word 'Ruana' which means 'musical instrument'. Given the clutch theme and his love for music, we thought it was only appropriate.
We adored making Ruanath, and we hope you enjoy playing him - though first and foremost he is your dragon, and you can play him however you wish.
