Description
Small and somewhat wiry, Syleka has an odd perky brightness to her. She's pale all over, creamy skin and platinum blonde hair giving a slightly creepy impression when combined with blue eyes just a liiiittle too large for her face. That face is a pointed oval with delicate features and full lips usually turned upwards in a smile. She's short, coming to a total height of about 5'2", but her limbs and torso are long. She's usually smiling, and often gives the impression that she's not entirely there, like she's off paying attention to another reality and only occasionally checking in.
History
Syleka lived most of her life in a small Istan cothold, living with a family of vinters. Her family was large, and had several connections to a trader caravan, so she occasionally would do a round with her trader cousins, and frequently they would stay with her family as she was growing up. They brought with them all sorts of stories and goods, with which she was fascinated. A dreamer, Syleka's heads were in the clouds. She grew up appreciating and hearing about the cultures of other, and the fine alcohols her family had contact to. She learned to bartend from several of her younger trader cousins, who traveled pern and learned all sorts of interesting mixed drinks. This continued until recently. Syleka, mostly against her dreams, was being trained as the only-daughter to assume the management of the small cothold her parents had managed to keep. Thus, when the major earthquakes that recently ravaged Ista Island destroyed it, it was almost like an unhappy answer to her prayers. She hadn't wished it to come to such destruction, especially to the sadness of her parents', whose entire life's work was destroyed. The family had to move to the weyr as refugees, where Syleka put her talents to work as a bartender for the Sands. She grew quite comfortable at the weyr, despite the crowded conditions with the refugees, and particularly enjoyed the more open and accepting lifestyle, similar to that of the traders. The alcohol ban was a blow to her, and she was very displeased with it— and that is where she has been until now, until she learned of the opening of a new hot night-spot. Her parents have since moved off to greener pastures, specifically in Southern Boll, but she remains at Ista Weyr.
