Deforya is short girl for her age, short and with a little more weight to, giving her a girlish chubbiness. Her hair is the brightest red and very curly, falling in tight ringlets to her shoulders. She has wide dark blue eyes long eye lashes on a cute face with an adorable button nose. Her pale milky white skin burns easily, and she has a spattering of freckles across her nose and cheeks. She dresses plainly in an effort to dim down her appearence which makes her stand out.
Deforya was the illegitiment daughter of a married couple. The couple already had two other girls and when Deforya was born it became clear that her mother had an affair. Deforya's red hair something neither her mother nor her mother's husband had. Deforya's mother was threatened with loosing her other two girls and her husband if she kept the girl after weaning her off her breast milk. Deforya's mother not willing to take that risk, made a visit to another hold and left the girl there. It was around that time that Deforya began developing the complex of hers. She though that if she was prettier, thinner, smarter and taller maybe her mama wouldn't have abandoned her. So Deforya grew up with other children, though the knowledge her mother kept her sisters still haunts her and saddens her. However she was fostered out to a young woman named Tanalei at 9 turns old. Tanalei somewhat adopted her until she impressed a green named Salviath when Deforya was 12 at Ista Weyr. Almost two turns on Deforya still hasn't decided to take up a craft, instead she is trying to decide where she should go next, choosing to reside at Ista Weyr for the time being.
