Description
Standing at around five-foot-five, Baileigh is an average Istan woman. Slightly frizzy auburn hair is tinged coppery underneath, and streaked with sun-bleached blonde, pulled back into a severe braid that hangs to the young woman's back. Her oval face is full of sharp lines, smattered with a health dose of freckles, and boasting an overly-large pair of inquisitive hazel eyes which are just as often dropped in mute apology as they are sweeping about quickly, almost nervously. Light, airy fabrics reveal deeply tanned skin and well-mucled limbs - a body that's used to working. There is, however, just the barest hint of chubbiness which speaks of someone used to at least some comforts, and maybe just a touch of baby-fat leftover on a woman still growing up. Her curves, while not volupturous, are certainly present - though hardly flaunted. Baileigh still seems to be uncomfortable with her recent transition to womanhood - spoken by her tendency to keep her arms crossed firmly across her chest.
Baileigh's clothing tendencies mimic much of Ista as well. Light, flowing fabrics are designed to keep one as cool as possible, though correctly tailored to the job at hand. As a member of Ista Weyr's support staff, under the Headwoman herself, Baileigh favors a skirt of light linen, washed so often it's nearly transparent, though newly dyed a deep earthy brown, a tunic of the same material, though dyed a faint teal, and serviceable sandals. She's hardly adorned with any jewlery, and the only belt she wears is a jaunty scarf woven in blues, greens, purples and touches of brown. Upon her shoulder is affixed the white knot of Candidacy in Ista Weyr.
History
Bailey had a typical childhood, growing up in a Fisher hold. The eldest daughter and her father's soft-spot, Baileigh still learned early that little comes easy to those who aren't Weyrleaders or Lord Holders. From a young age, she tended children, mended nets, cleaned and cured fish, and helped her mother keep hold. Though not a genius by any means, Baileigh had natural talent at nearly anything she turned her hands to, though little actually caught the youngster's attention and held her passions. Despite being the eldest, Baileigh was by no means the most beautiful of Annelie and Barrtyon's get - the two sisters just below her being the most startlingly beautiful, and married off the most quickly, and the baby showing great promise in that area. Between her lack of exquisite looks and her lack-luster attitude, Baileigh found herself to be the age of eighteen and still without a suitor. Torn between a sense of failure and relief at being allowed to continue her life as she's already begun, Baileigh was given little time to truly fret over her personal troubles. The great Istan earthquake swallowed their tiny seahold whole. Fortunately for many who called the Hold home, most of the menfolk had been out on the fishing ships and many of the children and womenfolks were out on the beaches scouring for fingerlings or picking herbs. Not everyone was so lucky - many of the elders were lost, as were a few women and the youngest babies who had stayed behind. The men on the boats weren't completely lucky, either - the resulting tidal wave capsized more then a few boats, causing a few casualties, but many more injuries. Baileigh's family were some of the luckiest in the hold - they came out completely intact, though two of Baileigh's brothers suffered broken limbs from being thrown hard to the dock of their fishing boat. Disheartened, they followed those trooping to Ista Weyr, which offered comfort to the refugees. During the six months it took to rebuild the Hold, Baileigh waited at Ista Weyr, and to prevent herself growing fidgetty, she often threw in her hand with the women in the Lower Caverns. She was dependable - this the women saw quickly - and a hard worker, completing any task put before her quickly and entirely before moving unquestionably on to the next one. A few of the harsher, more arrogant women in the Caverns found what else Baileigh was good for: so used to taking orders all of her life, Baileigh put up no resistance to being abused. It wasn't unheard of for one of the cooks, in a spate of temper, to chase the young woman out of her kitchen with thrown objects, utterly venting her spleen on the woman-child who would not fight back. Baileigh never seemed to hold any grudge, either, and though it baffled many of the women, it was requested she stay behind when her family made ready to leave. Happy where she had settled in, and distantly intrigued by the dragons which flocked about the Weyr, Baileigh agreed. Though there were tearful goodbyes, Baileigh seems to be happy about her new lot in life.
Baileigh settled in quickly on her own at the Weyr, though she mostly kept to herself. In her new role as Weyr messenger, Baileigh was often kept on the move. A chance errand to the Weyr's Infirmary brought her into close contact with the Weyr's head-Healer - a Journeyman by the name of Chaton - during a frightening episode concerning the prisoner Renegade Veski and his little niece, Nazaya. This began Lei's socialization within the Weyr. Within a few months, she and Chaton's girlfriend, Shorynia, had become fast friends, and Shory had even finagled to get Lei the promotion to paperwork assistant, just as Shorynia was. All went well enough, until Ellamariseth laid the clutch sired by Kinseth. Baileigh, being meek and mild, had no hopes of being Searched - she'd even gone so far as to bet her precious virginity she wouldn't with the handsome Harper Journeyman twin Khaine, as well as laying down marks that Shorynia wouldn't only be Searched, but would doubtless Impress the gold Baileigh was adamant Ellamariseth had laid. The day before the Weyr announced it had all the Candidates it needed, the unthinkable happened - Lorena's cowboy Loyauth accosted Baileigh and Khaine as the pair were out walking, claiming Baileigh as his own personal Candidate for the Sands.
It was during Candidacy that Baileigh's relationship with Khaine went from "puppy dog crush" to "open affection", freely returned by the older man. This shift, however, caused roller-coaster emotions to run high between the two - it didn't seem that a day passed in the Weyr which was unmarred by an argument that marked trouble in paradise. Their fragile understanding was helped little by Baileigh's rather negative opinion of Khaine's twin Xhaine, nor by his abject glee in twitting her. As it stands, Baileigh is living day-to-day and just waiting for the Hatching, hardly daring to think about what will happen "after" and just hoping she can make it through without either dropping dead or getting mauled by a Hatchling.
Personality
Shy as a butterfly, Baileigh is one of those people that runs away from danger as soon as danger even whispers into being. She is soft-spoken, and a woman of few words - a chance encounter with Lei would probably lead one to believe she's rather stupid. She's not - she's just quite sheltered, despite a childhood grown up around the docks. She's as easy to lead as a lamb, it just takes whispered words and reassurances. Once set down the path of an ideal, she's stutteringly stubborn, almost laughably so. There is very little that Baileigh actually cares so much about to show more then the tiniest spark of passion. Children are one of those rare subjects - grown up taking care of her infant brothers and sisters, Baileigh has a soft spot for all children. Aside from her lack of passion about most anything, Baileigh is ridiculously easy to push over - and, relatedly, to abuse. Some, however, might feel the abuse is less then satisfying, as Lei will just stand there, take it all, and even tell you "thank you" afterwards. It is obvious that this is how she endeared herself to most of the Headwoman's senior staff - she's a doormat, easy for them to take out their irritations on, and feel better the rest of the day. Lei doesn't seem to mind, and despite her shyness and other shortcomings, only a select few have, as yet, seen the woman cry.

Firelizards
Harlequined Clown in Bronze Gracious
Of a darker bronze hue than most; he's certainly still possessing of that tannish greeny-gold hide, albeit a little darker in tan tones. Study and well-built in body, he is rather gawky and long in neck, tail and limbs. In fact, he seems as if he could easily be two separate firelizards in one; a trait that certainly does little to detract from his awkward gracelessness. Long narrow wings flutter cape-like, and he sports a contrasting band of color — although in his case, it is a lighter shade of bronze — that runs from nose to tail with streaks and patches of that same hue mottling his sides and his legs. He seems to be gifted with a plethora of spindly limbs, and a certain inherent clumsiness and a lack of grace.
Dragon
Lei is a Candidate for Ista Weyr's current cycle.
